A Rebel’s Daughter –Brendan Gisby
The first Unco recommends back in January was Brendan Gisby’s classic tribute to his father‘The Bookies Runner.’ So it seems only fitting that we give a shout at the end of the year for his new tribute to his mother. Taken together these two slight volumes punch well above their weight in paper and give an insight into ‘ordinary’ lives which are, you will find, anything but ordinary.
Socialism and Character – James Leatham
Leatham’s first work, written in 1897 offers a picture of socialism from an ethical perspective. Includes the pamphlet ‘Was Jesus Christ a Socialist?’ this short work completely split contemporary critics and will doubtless do exactly the same today.
