slow reading
(An archived project)
Experience reading 1890s style.
In the late 19th century much popular fiction was read via serialisations in magazines. This style of reading has an enormous impact on the way you engage and understand text, and we offer you the chance to experience this style of 'slow reading' for yourself by serialising 'anniversary' texts. You can read these, an episode at a time (use the sidebar to get to the correct chapter or you'll find yourself reading backwards!)
Men of the Moss Hags by S.R.Crockett, first serialised in Good Words in 1895.
Heathercat by R.L.Stevenson (a quick, slow read) Unfinished, written in 1894.
Sir Quixote of the Moor by John Buchan Written 1895, first published 1896.
The Lilac Sunbonnet by S.R.Crockett, first serialised in The Christian Leader in 1894
The Little Minister by J.M.Barrie first serialised in 'Good Words' magazine 1891
Ione March by S.R. Crockett, first serialised in 'Woman at Home' as The Woman of Fortune in 1899
