A REVOLUTIONARY JOURNEY THROUGH NARRATIVE
TWO BOOK SPECIAL OFFER
'The One that Got Away' (2018) and 'Another World is Possible' (2007) by Cally Phillips.
'Words that do not match deeds are unimportant' (Guevara)
'Another World is Possible' is an exploration in narrative where nothing is what it seems. It is a story about the stories people live by. Love and Identity. Truth and lies. Fact. Fiction. The central mother daughter relationship is played out in the shadow of a powerful and iconic man from history. But whose story is it? And can anyone answer the question defining Roisin's life - 'Am I Che Guevara's Love Child?'
'Revolutionaries will come who will sing the song of the new man and woman in the true voice of the people.' (Guevara)
'The One that Got Away' is the story of Tom Black (a minor character in AWIP). Set in 1989 against the backdrop of a failing marriage, the fall of the Soviet Union and the rise of Thatcher’s ‘no society’ Britain and global ‘free’ markets he goes to Havana with a job to do. But what job? The reader can barely work it out – is he a spy, is he ‘just an economist’ or is he ‘only a man’? In any case, he is confronted by a world that challenges his identity to its very core – and the reader may face a similar challenge.
Together, these books call into question the reader's perceptions not just of Cuba but of the nature of narrative itself.
This special offer marks the 60th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution in 1959. There has never been a better time to get revolutionary in your reading. To find out more about The One That Got Away GO UNCO
